PMS

Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms can be categorized into three main groups:

1. behavioral symptoms (including fatigue, insomnia, changes in sexual desire, food cravings)

2. psychological symptoms (such as irritability, depression, anxiety, mood swings)

3. physical symptoms (including headaches, breast tenderness, abdominal discomfort, and swelling)

Acupuncture stimulates the release of neurotransmitters which exert an influence on the menstrual cycle, ovulation, and fertility. This helps to reduce stress hormones, which play a role in PMS symptoms.

Our therapies aim to restore balance in the body’s vital energy (Qi) to reduce the effects of stress hormones and alleviate PMS symptoms. Acupuncture is believed to regulate hormones, provide pain relief, balance one’s mood, and improve blood circulation, all of which can also contribute to the reduction of PMS symptoms. Our approach is to offer personalized care to each of our patient’s symptoms of PMS.

We also may incorporate a range of Chinese herbs and herbal formulas to address PMS symptoms. Herbal remedies are based on each patient’s specific pattern of disharmony and symptoms. Our practitioners are qualified to identify the root cause of the underlying condition creating personalized herbal formulas for our patients. Self-administration of herbal remedies, especially in complex cases of PMS, is not recommended, as the wrong combination of herbs can have adverse effects.
